Florence County Disabilities Foundation announced recently that is has received a $1,500 CVS Caremark Community Grant.  Florence County Disabilities Foundation is a non-profit organization with a 20 member board of directors that provides financial and volunteer support for over 1,000 individuals with life-long disabilities served by Florence County Disabilities & Special Needs Board.

These funds will be used to assist children with disabilities under the age of 18 with participating in inclusive recreational programs over the next 12 months. "We are excited about this partnership and also look forward to CVS Caremark employee volunteers giving their time to assist with this program as well," stated Walter M. Sparrow, Foundation Director.

"CVS Caremark Community Grants are an effective way for us to contribute to the success of communities where we do business," said Jennifer Veillex, Director of CVS Caremark Corporation. "We are proud to support the work that Florence County Disabilities Foundation does in the community."

The CVS Caremark Community Grant to Florence County Disabilities Foundation is part of CVS Caremark’s commitment to its communities throughout the country.  Florence County Disabilities Foundation was selected to receive a grant through the CVS Caremark Community Grants 2008 grant application process.  Grants were awarded to organizations that share a common vision with CVS Caremark’s All Kids Can program, which strives to make life easier for children with disabilities.

The goal of the program is to create more inclusive environments for children with and without disabilities to build self-esteem, lasting friendships and social skills, and to help children without disabilities learn diversity and tolerance.

"CVS Caremark is committed to helping children with disabilities learn, play and succeed in life," said Steven Grander, area vice president. "Through this grant, we are proud to be able to help make an impact on the lives of children throughout Florence County."

Florence County Disabilities Foundation was established in 1991 to help meet the ever increasing needs of individuals with mental retardation, autism, head and spinal cord injuries and other related disabilities that were not funded through any other resources.

The Foundation also operates five thrift stores throughout the county that provides employment and training opportunities to over 40 individuals with disabilities, as well as provides an on-going source of income for the Foundation.

The motto of the Foundation is "make a difference in people’s lives" and it is through projects such as this that makes that possible.

All Kids Can, a program of the CVS Caremark Charitable Trust and CVS Caremark, is a five-year $25 million commitment to support children with disabilities. The goals of the All Kids Can are to support children with disabilities by raising awareness in schools and in local communities about the importance of inclusion, creating greater opportunities for physical activity and play, and providing access to medical rehabilitation and related services. CVSA Caremark and its more than 190,000 employees plan to help children with disabilities learn, play and succeed through partnerships with leading local and national non-profit organizations such as Easter Seals and many others across the country.
